Emergency Information
For school closing because of inclement weather or emergencies, listen to Radio Stations, WINS [1010], WALK [97.5FM], WKJY [KJOY-98.3FM], WHLI [1100AM], WMJC [Island 94.3], WMZO [B-103]; Channel 12 News or Channel 4 News.Our Lady of Mercy Academy is instituting a telephone broadcast system that will enable school personnel to notify all households and parents by phone within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that causes early dismissal, school cancellation [due to snow] or late start. This School Reach system will be in place January 1, 2008. For those parents of students who drive to school please remember that the decision to dismiss early is made solely by school administration. We cannot dismiss students on an individual basis by parental request as this is disruptive to the school. If you feel uncomfortable with your child driving in potentially inclement weather do not allow her to take a car to school when bad weather is predicted. As for early bus dismissal, this is very difficult as so many districts service our school and they do not have buses prepared to come here immediately. At best, once such a decision is made it would take hours to arrange for service. Every district cannot honor a request for an early bus, therefore, some students will be left at OLMA until regular dismissal time [3:00pm or much later]. |
